NetEase Games has announced its first major single-player game called Blood Message, marking a big shift for the company known mainly for online games. The action-adventure title is being developed by 24 Entertainment Lin’an, a new studio under NetEase’s Thunder Fire Studio.
Blood Message will be a story-focused game coming to PC and gaming consoles, though no specific platforms or release date have been shared yet. The game uses Unreal Engine 5 and custom technology to create what NetEase calls a “cinematic experience.”
“We are ushering players into a new generation of high adventure with Blood Message,” said NetEase Games executive Zhipeng Hu. “As our first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games, after two decades of deep dedication to the gaming industry, we are prepared to deliver a truly epic and cinematic experience for players around the world.”
The game takes place during the final years of China’s Tang Dynasty, a time of political chaos and war. Players control a nameless messenger and his young son who get caught up in an uprising in Dunhuang. Their mission is to deliver an important message by traveling 3,000 li (about 1,000 miles) eastward to Chang’an, the Tang Empire’s capital.

In addition, the journey will take players across deserts and wilderness areas inspired by real locations in East and Central Asia. Along the way, they’ll face brutal combat, need to use stealth to survive, and make difficult choices about family and duty. Blood Message appears designed to compete with other major story-driven action games while bringing Chinese history and culture to global audiences.
